Recently, around 25 students gathered at the Astronomy House for an engaging and informative evening about Science Village. Student representatives from the Science Student Union (LUNA), the Student Union at the Faculty of Engineering, “Teknologkåren” (TLTH), and LUS (Lund University’s Student Unions) were present to emphasize the importance of students’ voices in the Science Village project.

The evening began with an introduction by Sanela Lulic, President of LUNA, William Lundgren, responsible for educational matters at TLTH, and Vincent Loft, LUS student representative on the Science Village board. They stressed how crucial it is to capture students’ thoughts and opinions in this large-scale project.

Following this, the project leaders, Professor Knut Deppert from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering, and Charlotte von Brömssen from LU Byggnad, took over. They provided an update on the project’s progress and briefly presented the results from the recently completed evaluation report, which reviewed the premises programme finalized in December last year.

The report compares the pros and cons, costs, and climate impact of Scenario 5 — the move to Science Village — with alternatives such as reinforcing Fysicum and Kemicentrum through renovations, as well as relocating the Physics Department to Kemicentrum and renovating it.

During the Q&A session, students raised several important questions. They asked about lunch options in Science Village and the possibility of purchasing lunch at a reasonable price suitable for a student budget, how schedules would be adapted to minimize travel between the LTH Campus and Science Village on the same day, and when a possible move according to Scenario 5 could become a reality. The project team did their best to answer all questions and provide a clear picture of what can be expected going forward.

The evening concluded with an invitation to all student groups to participate in the ongoing surveys, so that their perspectives can contribute to the continued work. Although the student unions already have some idea of what students need and may be concerned about, now it’s time to collect concrete responses.

The Stage 2 project team extends a big thank you to everyone who participated this evening!
